The news has been awash with allegations of unbridled corruption and theft against the embattled former Nigerian minister of Petroluem Resources Diezani Allison-Madueke She has been accused of awarding multi-billion Naira contracts without recourse to due process, recklessly spending government funds as well as wasting billions of Nigerian dollars inappropriately on private jets. when she was in Government
In October 2009, the Senate of Nigeria indicted Diezani Alison-Madueke and recommended prosecution for the transfer of 1.2 billion naira into the private account of a toll company without due process and in breach of concession agreements however, she was not officially charged or tried for these allegations and strongly denied any wrongdoing.

She gained international notoriety as a symbol of the Nigerian Government's corruption when she was arrested in London on October 2015 on suspicion of money laundering, British and American officials were quoted as saying that she might have personally organized the diversion of $6 billion from the Nigerian treasury she was however later freed without charges.
She became embroiled in a very public spat with the former Governor of the central bank Mr Sanusi who claimed he was fired from the Central Bank of Nigeria by the Jonathan Administration because he went public with charges that $20billion went missing from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) under her management. she countered the allegations by saying Sanusi made the claims to retaliate after she didn’t help him to get appointed as the president of the African Development Bank.
The EFCC under the present Government of Mohammed Buhari who was elected on the pledge that he would stamp out corruption seems to be determined to ensure that she is brought to book and even though Mrs Dieziana who states that she has been undergoing treatment for breast cancer recently released a very long statement to refute all the charges against her - to many of her detractors she is like proverbial Lady Macbeth who could never wash her hands clean!!
